GEORGIA COLOR PLEIN AIR COMPETITION: CREATING ART IN GEORGIA’S HISTORIC HEARTLAND

40 talented artists from across Georgia will be painting in the beautiful historic heartland of Georgia Thursday, October 31 through Sunday, November 3rd.
Georgia Color Plein Air* presented by Olmsted Arts, celebrates the tradition of outdoor painting with 40 of the finest outdoor painters in Georgia. 40 artists will put brush to canvas, capturing the autumn light over the waters and fields of Georgia’s Historic Heartland region. The Georgia Color Artists will bring a fresh eye to the changing lights and colors, and a variety of styles that draw from the rich traditions of plein air painting.
A juried event, Artists are competing for a purse. Fresh works will be available for purchase each day. Featured Artists will hold back two paintings for the Awards Event on Saturday evening where a panel of Judges will award prizes. Awards Event attendees will have the first opportunity to purchase paintings before the public exhibition on Sunday.
Fresh paintings produced will be available for purchase at various places throughout the 4-day event. All competition paintings will be held back, revealed and available for sale for the first time at the Celebration of Art and Awards Presentation the evening of November 2nd at Barrel 118 in Eatonton, Georgia. *En plein air is a French expression that means “in the open air.” It is used by artists to describe the art of outdoor painting, capturing landscapes and views in natural light. This kind of art has been a popular practice for centuries and requires specific skills and techniques.
