The Plaza Arts Center would like to thank everyone who came out to support our Jukebox Hero Challenge Event on August 16th. The evening was yet another example of how much talent exists and thrives in our city and throughout the Lake Country. We would like to thank Rainey Gallagher, Julie Malcom and Loretta Hampton for some absolutely amazing vocals and versatility. Along with members of The Deraney Band, the group learned and rehearsed over 100 songs. So many of the songs were selected or dedicated on the spot and the band played all of them beautifully. This led to a highly-interactive experience for the audience as they bid on the songs they wanted to hear and dance to throughout the night. Our event emcee, Bill Dudley, also kept the crowd entertained between songs with his funny ways and even better costume props. All of these elements led to a great evening with all proceeds benefiting The Plaza’s operational and programming needs..
We would especially like to thank The Farmers and Merchants Bank for sponsoring our “Meet Me at the Plaza” concerts for 20 consecutive years. Their support in the early years helped develop funds to renovate The Plaza building and provide a world-class performing arts venue for our community. Without their support, and the support of so many people who attended this event, we would not be able to provide arts programs for the Lake County the way we do today. So, a big thank you to Farmers and Merchants Bank, and everyone who attended, for investing in this growing arts-centric community.
With your continued support, we will keep bringing you events like outdoor concerts, musicals, school productions, plays and one-of-a-kind shows like the up and coming “Iconic Ladies of Jazz and Soul” on September 26th. The music Myrna Clayton will perform comes from the very souls of iconic women who stepped-out and took chances with their gifts. We support honoring that boldness and trail-blazing music. We would love to see you in the audience at The Plaza enjoying the amazing vocals of Ms. Clayton as she honors artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Natalie Cole and a special tribute to Aretha Franklin. We are able to present Myrna Clayton, America’s songbird, to Eatonton thanks to a block booking grant courtesy of the Fox Theatre Institute and the Georgia Presenters. Thanks to these types of grants, we are able to bring performers to The Plaza who normally perform in much larger cities and venues. We hope you take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. As always, thank you for your support and we’ll see you at The Plaza.
